The development of its facilities has been marked by the evolution of the market on three fronts: General industry, Automotive and Process Lines for coated materials.

Gonvarri Barcelona was established in 1982, with an initial area of 15,000 m2 and two buildings, which presently occupy 56,000 m2.

The plant meets the requirements of the automotive parts, appliance and construction sectors with 5 slitting lines and 3 cut-to-length lines.

One of the Barcelona Plant's main features is the presence of continuous process lines for coil coating.

Thus, in 1996 the first process line for manufacturing coated material was started up: the electrolytic galvanizing line.

Specially designed for the automotive industry, it produces a zinc cathode coated material resistant to corrosion, which has an excellent surface texture and can be easily painted. Coupled with its pressing and welding properties, it comprises a product designed for the automotive market which cannot be beaten.

The electrolytic zinc coatings are 2.5 microns min. to 10 microns max. in thickness on one side and 2.5 + 2.5 microns min. to 10 + 10 microns max. in thickness on two sides. The band width is 600 to 1500 m, and the thickness that this line processes ranges from 0.4 to 4.0 mm, with a coil weight of up to 25 ™.

The surface finishing is offered in: oiled, and “no-rinse” or “antifinger”.

As the entire process is controlled automatically, we guarantee the quality of our electrolytic galvanized sheet metal for our valued clients in the automotive, household appliance, furniture, construction and electrical appliance markets.

In August 2000, following up on our commitment to offer our clients the best guarantee of service and quality, the second sheet metal coating line started up: the galvanising line. Not only does this line service the national market but also the rest of our clients in Southern Europe.

Based on FLUX technology, with quick roller changing mechanisms and quick to operate furnaces, this line is characterised by its great flexibility allowing us to tend to our clients in very short response times.

Equipped with the most comprehensive physical-chemical treatment systems to achieve maximum cleanliness and to ensure perfect coating adherence, and with a Skin-pass and “low tension levelling” device, this line guarantees maximum quality in the flatness and in the superficial characteristics of the sheet metal.

Starting with coils having an inner diameter between 508 and 610 mm, a maximum external diameter of 2,000 mm, widths between 700 and 1,500 mm, and thicknesses of 0.5 to 3.0 mm, the minimum coating that we can achieve is 100 g/m2 (the sum of both sides) and a maximum coating of 350 g/m2 (the sum of both sides). The surface treatments can be MA or MB, oiled and/or chromed.
