As part of the group's expansion policy, Gonvarri Portugal was founded in 1994 in order to meet the needs of the Portuguese market.

Situated in the Setúbal region, this Service Centre enjoys a highly privileged location. Only 12 km away lies the Port of Setúbal. which can unload high tonnage ships; Lusosider (formerly the National Iron and Steel works) is 15 km away; and Autoeuropa (VW group factory) is less than 10 km away.

Adopted in 1994, their strategy focuses on obtaining the best levels of quality and customer service. To this end, major investments have been made. The surface area, which is currently 30,000 m2 (on land measuring 185,000 m2) has been doubled and the Centre boasts state-of-the-art production facilities which cover the full range of products demanded by the Portuguese market and give the company a processing capacity of over 250,000 MT/year.

Two of these lines are worthy of mention as they are unique to Portugal:

• A slitting line (Line 6), with a cutting capacity of up to 2 metres in width and the ability to cut precise surfaces

• A cut-to-length line which can cut widths of up to 2 metres and trapezoidal shapes and has the ability to cut precise surfaces.

In addition to material investments, the plant's initial strategy also encompasses the efforts made in terms of company organization and workforce training.

Thus, today Gonvarri Portugal has an Integrated Management System, which is recognised and certified by the following international standards:

• ISO TS 16949: 2002
• ISO 9001: 2000
• OHSAS 18001: 1999
• ISO 14001: 1999

As a result of the above, Gonvarri Portugal is a market leader in Portugal in the sectors of greater added value (car and household appliance sectors).
