Gonvarri Industries, a global leader in the transformation of flat steel, aluminium and metal solutions for sectors such as the automotive, renewable energy and infrastructure industries, presents its Sustainability Report 2024, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability, innovation and social responsibility. The following highlights the main achievements and efforts in the environmental, social and governance and transparency areas.
Environmental Sphere
1.- Reduction of Emissions: In 2024, Gonvarri Industries achieved an 8% reduction in direct emissions from its processes, aligning with its Carbon Neutral 2030-2050 Plan, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to 2022.
Renewable Energy Consumption: 58% of the electricity consumed by the company in 2024 came from renewable sources, with the goal of reaching 100% by 2030. This effort is part of its commitment to decarbonisation and energy sustainability.
3.- Commitment to the Circular Economy: Gonvarri Industries recycled 99% of its non-hazardous waste in 2024, highlighting its focus on the circular economy and minimising the environmental impact of its operations. The group is also focused on developing a Green Steel strategy with the aim of positioning Gonvarri as the reference centre for low-emission metal solutions.
Social Sphere
1.- Occupational Health and Safety: The company reached a significant milestone by completing a year with no serious accidents among its own and subcontracted personnel, thanks to its focus on awareness and investment in safety improvements.
2.- Investments in Safety: In 2024, Gonvarri Industries invested around €5 million in safety improvements, accumulating more than €15 million invested since 2020. These investments reflect its commitment to creating a safe and healthy working environment.
3.- Workforce Growth and Diversity: The integration of the Hidria group resulted in a 20% increase in the total number of employees, with women representing 19% of the workforce. The company continues to focus on training, professional development and diversity.
Governance and Transparency
1.- Recognition in Sustainability: Gonvarri Industries was recognised by Ecovadis with a silver medal, placing it in the top 15% of the companies assessed globally. In addition, CDP awarded it a ‘B’ rating for its performance in climate change.
2.- Compliance Model: The company maintains a robust compliance model, with policies updated in 2024 on managing conflicts of interest, fraud and corruption, and engaging external advisors. These policies ensure transparency and ethics in all its operations.
3.- Preparation for New Regulations: Gonvarri Industries is preparing for the implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), integrating new indicators and control systems to improve transparency and reporting.
